History
Bac Orchids, founded in 1965 by Adri Bac, father of the brothers Dico and Gert-Jan Bac, started as a small company growing lettuce and cucumbers on an area of 0.3 hectares. Adri Bac, a pioneer in orchid cultivation among other things, sold these products through the auction.
In the 1970s we added cut flowers to our assortment, including carefully grown anthuriums. At the end of the 1970s and the beginning of the 1980s we made the transition to orchids, while stopping the cultivation of lettuce and cucumbers. This resulted in a combination of cymbidiums and anthuriums in our assortment, providing a complementary mix of flowering plants throughout the year.
In 2000 we changed our company name to Gebroeders Bac and expanded with a new location at Herenweg 50. There we built a new greenhouse for our beautiful anthurium varieties, while the cymbidiums found their home at Herenweg 45. In 2006 we expanded further, resulting in a larger assortment of anthuriums.
During expansions in 2007 and 2008 we added the Herenweg 43-41 location to our growing company, where we housed our cymbidiums. After a decline in the popularity of the anthurium, we decided to focus entirely on cymbidiums. Our company now covers an area of 5.6 hectares.
In 2016 we underwent another name change and continued as Bac Orchids BV. Our passion lies in finding unique cymbidium varieties and selecting strong cultivars with bright, vivid colours.
Previously we focused mainly on auction sales, but thanks to digital technologies we have specialised in tailor-made sales for various wholesalers and customers, both locally and internationally.
Since 2016 we have also focused on sustainable cultivation. We use residual heat for our greenhouses and make use of 700 solar panels. In addition, we apply biological crop protection with the help of a variety of beneficial insects. This has led to a 95% reduction in the use of chemical agents.
Our assortment is available from September to June, and we are proud of the beautiful cymbidiums we grow. Our motto, displayed in our company logo, reads:
